Here you can find a comprehensive record of every single manager West Ham United's history.

Simply click on a manager's name to view his individual record for the club, including matches managed, home and away records, competition records, season-by-season break downs and loads more. For ease, we have also included some baseline information for each manager on this page.

If a manager's name is black it means he doesn't yet have a West Ham Wiki page. If a manager's name is blue it means his West Ham United career is available to view. The current West Ham United manager is highlighted in blue.

We are regularly working on populating West Ham Wiki to complete our directory of West Ham United's entire history, so please keep checking back regularly for further updates.

West Ham United Managers

West Ham United has had 17 different permanent managers in its history, all with varying success.

The club's first permanent manager was Syd King, who still holds the record for the longest spell in charge - 30 years, between 1902 and 1932. The manager with the shortest managerial spell is Lou Macari, who lasted just six months between August 1989 and February 1990.

Due to the exceptional longevity of the club's first managerial appointments, by the time the club had turned 100 years old it had only had seven permanent managers on record.

West Ham's first non-English manager was also Macari, who is Scottish. Italian Gianfranco Zola became West Ham's first non-UK manager when he was appointed September, 2008. The Hammers' first non-European manager was Chilean Manuel Pellegrini, who managed the club between 2018 and 2019.

The club's most successful manager in terms of win percentage is currently David Moyes who, in his second spell, turned a struggling West Ham team into regular top-six contenders in the Premier League and guided them to a club-record three consecutive seasons in Europe.

Returning West Ham United Managers

The only manager in West Ham's history to manage two permanent spells is David Moyes. The Scot first joined the club on a short-term contract following the departure of Slaven Bilic midway through the 2017/2018 season. Moyes successfully saved the club from relegation that season but it was decided he would not remain as manager, with the club deciding to appoint Manuel Pellegrini instead. However, midway through the 2019/2020 season, Pellegrini was sacked and Moyes was asked to return for a second spell on a longer contract. Moyes would go on to achieve the highest win percentage in the club's history and led West Ham to two top-seven finishes in the Premier League and Europa Conference League glory in 2023, ending West Ham's 43-year trophy drought in the process.

Below is his overall record as West Ham manager, with both of his spells combined.
